The combustion liner Cap is located between the fuel nozzle assembly and the combustion Liner to provide the desired arrangement of fuel nozzles.
To withstand exposure to intense heat, these products can be coated with a Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) from the combustion side. Numerous small cooling holes are located along the entire surface to direct the cooling air from inside the cap to the surface.
During workshop visits, parts must be thoroughly cleaned by grinding or grit blasting prior to inspection so that the scope of repair work can be easily identified. Disassembly, penetrant testing with red dye, dimensional and visual inspection are carried out as part of the maintenance/repairability test.
